September 11, 2019 (San Diego) - San Diego State, in conjunction with the Mountain West, released its men's basketball non-conference schedule for the 2019-20 season on Wednesday. SDSU will play marquee games against perennially nationally ranked team in its non-conference schedule.
The team’s non-conference schedule, which includes 10 games, five of which are in Viejas Arena, is highlighted by a pair of multi-team events against schools that competed in the postseason last year.
The Aztecs will spend Thanksgiving in Las Vegas competing in the Continental Tires Las Vegas Invitational. SDSU opens the tournament against Creighton on Nov. 28. Regardless of the outcome of the San Diego State vs. Creighton game, the Aztecs will face an NCAA Tournament team on Nov. 29. The Aztecs vs. Creighton game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on FS1. The championship and consolation games on Nov. 29 will also be broadcast on FS1 with game times to be determined later.
On December 21, San Diego State makes its first appearance in the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles playing in the Basketball Hall of Fame Classic presented by Citi. The one-day, two-game event has SDSU playing Utah in the opener. The meeting of former conference foes will be the 74th in the series. The Aztecs game is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Network.
The non-conference schedule kicks off with an exhibition against UC San Diego on Oct. 30.
The regular season tips off against Texas Southern (Nov. 5).
The first foray on the road comes Nov. 9 at Brigham Young. Provo has always been a tough place to play for opponents, but the Aztecs have beaten Brigham Young in each of its last two meetings there.
SDSU returns home for a game against Grand Canyon (Nov. 13). The teams have met three times, with the Antelopes winning each match-up, including twice on the Aztecs home court.
Staying in the city, the Aztecs travel down Mission Valley to play at San Diego (Nov. 20). The Jenny Craig Pavilion is a facility that has been kind SDSU, having won five straight games on USD’s home court.
San Diego State hosts LIU on Nov. 22 and Tennessee State on Nov. 25, two teams it has never faced. The games are the non-bracketed portion of the Continental Tires Las Vegas Invitational. Following the Tennessee State game, SDSU travels to Las Vegas for that portion of the LVI.
After a pair of Mountain West games on Dec. 4 and 8, the Aztecs finish out the non-conference schedule with two contests.
San Diego State will be in STAPLES Center for the Basketball Hall of Fame Classic on Dec. 21 against Utah and the curtain on the non-conference slate falls on Dec. 28 against Cal Poly in Viejas. SDSU is 23-4 at home against Cal Poly, including wins in the last 11 in a row. This will be the first meeting since the 2010-11 season.
