February 6, 2017 (San Diego) - The San Diego State lacrosse team picked up two Mountain Pacific Sports Federation awards on Monday as senior Kristen Hickey (Dedham, Mass.) was named Offensive Player of the Week, while freshman Taylor Sullivan (Annapolis, Md.) was selected Rookie of the Week. The two accolades were the first career weekly honors for the Aztec teammates.
Hickey led SDSU with four goals in the season opener last Saturday at home against Denver, which received votes in the Inside Lacrosse preseason poll. The Aztec tri-captain tallied two of her goals 12 seconds apart in the first half, which knotted the score at 3-3. Overall, Hickey led the team with six shots, including a 2-for-2 effort in free position attempts, and tied for game-high honors with three ground balls. She also caused two turnovers and collected one draw control.
Sullivan, meanwhile, was the lone SDSU freshman to crack the starting lineup in last Saturday’s home contest, scoring a free position goal in the second half, which marked her first collegiate score on her very first shot attempt. She also finished with one draw control.
San Diego State returns to the field next weekend when it travels to the Pacific Northwest to battle Oregon in its MPSF conference opener on Saturday, Feb. 11, starting at noon PT.
