May 26, 2017 (San Diego) - San Diego State senior Kristen Hickey (Dedham, Mass.) earned a spot in the 2017 Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Senior All-Star Game, the organization announced on Friday.
Representing the Aztecs on the North squad, Hickey was one of 44 student-athletes selected to play in the Division I contest at the annual event, which features the nation’s outstanding seniors each spring. This year's IWLCA All-Star spectacular will be held on Saturday, June 3, at Tierney Field in Sparks, Maryland, headquarters of US Lacrosse.
Opening draw for the Division I game is set for 11:30 a.m. ET/8:30 a.m. PT, with live streaming available on IWLCA-tv.com.
One of three team captains during SDSU’s historic 2017 campaign, Hickey capped her collegiate career by earning first-team all-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation honors after leading the team with 41 points and 34 goals, including 14 from the free position, which was tied for fifth in the conference. In addition, the Aztec midfielder tied for ninth in the in the MPSF with 23 caused turnovers, while her 37 ground balls ranked 10th.
For the season, Hickey scored at least one goal in 15 games, with multiple tallies in 11 contests. Earlier this year, the Dedham, Massachusetts, native was tabbed MPSF Player of the Week, garnering offensive accolades on Feb. 6, followed by defensive honors on March 27. She also moved into the top five on the school’s all-time charts with 66 ground balls and 47 caused turnovers for her career.
San Diego State completed its most successful season to date, finishing with a program-record 10 victories, highlighted by an 18-13 conquest of Oregon on April 27 in the MPSF tournament, which marked the squad’s first-ever win at the conference championships.
In addition to their team accomplishments, which included a 6-1 homestand in March, the Aztecs landed three players on the all-MPSF team this year, including Hickey, senior goalkeeper Katrina Reeves (second team) and junior midfielder Mackenzie Lech (second team). The selections gave SDSU three all-conference honorees in the same season for the third time in the program’s six-year history.
