SDSU SWIMMING TOPS USD IN ANNUAL PENTATHLON 33-24

September 15, 2017 (San Diego) - Led by Frida Berggren, McKenna Meyer, and Alma Thormalm, the San Diego State women’s swimming team recorded a campaign-opening 33-24 victory at the University of San Diego in a pentathlon meet on Friday afternoon.

Berggren posted a well-rounded day, finishing in the top three of each of the five legs of the pentathlon. Berggren took home a first-place finish in the 100 fly, posting a time of 57.29. Meyer posted a first-place time in the 100 IM at 1:00.09, just edging out Berggren, who finished in second at 1:00.29. Meyer also recorded second-place times in the 100 free (53.17) and 100 back (59.72).

 

Thormalm captured first place in the 100 free with a time of 52.83, while Elliyana Ferrin posted a 58.76 in the 100 back to seal a first place finish. The Aztecs had each of the top nine finishers in the 100 back.

 

Caitlin Delaney was the top finisher in the 100 breast with a time of 1:05.95. SDSU held each of the top six spots in the 100 breast.

 

Berggren recorded the top time of the annual pentathlon with a combined time of 4:58.57. She was followed by teammates Meyer and Thormalm, who had times of 5:02.97 and 5:04.96, respectively. USD’s top finisher Mackenna Briggs finished fourth in the meet with a combined time of 5:13.95, while SDSU had six of the top seven overall finishers.

 

The Aztecs have a two-week break from action before heading to Reno, Nev. for the Nevada Relays at the University of Nevada.
